Full Search - The Inner Bookshop

The Full Search screen searches ALL the books or other items we have. The entire database is searched regardless of subject matter. Useful if the book's subject is difficult to determine.

If however you cannot remember exactly the author or title of a book, the Subjects screen will help to break the search down into smaller and smaller lists.

Title - use 1-3 significant words from the title - titles with all the words will be listed. (If possible, don't use very common words such as book, guide, on, to, about).

Author - Enter names in any order. If you are entering just the surname, add a comma at the end - this will make sure that only surnames (and not first names) are searched. If you only know the first name, put in a comma and a space followed by the name (e.g. , John). If you get no results using the full first name, try again using just the initial.

Keyword - will search the title, description and subject categories of every book, and list any matches with the keyword(s) entered. Only books with all the words you have entered will be listed. If too many are listed you will be able to further refine your search.

Stockcode - Our catalogue stock numbers, these are found in our paper catalogue and on third party websites that we list on. In some cases the third party lists the stock number with preceding zeros, please leave them out when searching here.

Subject - to browse through books on a particular subject it is usually better to go via the main subject headings, and search from within one of them. This is quicker and eliminates spurious matches (such as novels with "Zen" in the title, when you really wanted Buddhist meditation!)

ISBN If you don't get a match, try searching by author and/or title, as secondhand books may not have their ISBN entered, or we may have the book in a different edition (publishers change ISBNs regularly, and all different editions have different ISBNs).
ISBNs can be in 10 digit format or now in 13 digit format too. ISBN13 was formerly called EAN and is the 13 digits of the bar code on the book.

Condition - books may be new, bargains, or secondhand. Bargain books are new but at sale prices; they are publishers overstocks or books we have acquired as a special offer. Most are in excellent condition; a few are "seconds" with minor cosmetic damage. Secondhand books vary from "as new", through "very good", "good", "fair", "worn", to "poor" (which will still be complete and readable). Where the condition is not stated books will be in fair or better condition.

If you still cannot find the book you are looking for:

  • Check your search. Have you miss-typed a word? Try searching by another route - e.g. author instead of title
  • Contact us. We will probably be able to order it for you if it is in print.
  • If it is out of print, we can record your interest in the title and let you know if we get a copy in secondhand, or  if it is reprinted.
